The Parish of Buxted and Hadlow Down in East Sussex is a single parish with three parish churches: St Margaret the Queen
in Buxted Park,
St Mary the Virgin in Buxted, and St Mark the Evangelist in Hadlow Down.  The parish is in the Uckfield Deanery, the Lewes & Hastings Archdeaconry and the Chichester Diocese.  We glory in what unites us and in what makes us special.

Welcome to our Parish website, officially launched on 1 Jan 2011. Pages in this website are frequently updated, so please visit our site regularly. If you have any comments, please send them to the webmaster .

A PLEA FROM THE PARISH OFFICE: Due to a change in circumstances, and after 3 years of compiling and printing the weekly pew-sheet and special orders of service, I would now like to hand the baton on to someone else, who may have some exciting new ideas for re-vamping it, possibly!  If you are reasonably computer-literate, a little bit creative, and have an hour to spare on a Friday morning to ‘man’ the office, please contact me (Janet Marsh) and we can chat about what exactly is involved.  I will provide a ‘hand-over’ period and ongoing support for as long as required so that you wouldn’t feel ‘thrown in at the deep-end’!  So, if you are looking for a new challenge, or a way to help in the smooth-running of the parish – this could be it!!  Thanks – I look forward to hearing from someone soon!  Janet

VAT. Many of you will be aware that in the Budget the Chancellor proposed to scrap the zero-rating of VAT on alterations to listed churches. This means that churches such as ours will have to find an extra 20% for any improvements we want to make. It will also mean that the money set aside by the government to refund some of the VAT paid on repairs will be spread much more thinly. If you want to try to change this, please (a) write to your MP (For Wealden: Charles Hendry MP, The House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA) and/or (b) sign the e-petition by going to http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/32229

If you wish to visit the Parish Office, please see the contact us page.  NB: Office hours are currently Friday mornings from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

Where are we?

This map shows the location of our three churches and the nearby towns of Uckfield, Heathfield and Crowborough. More detailed maps and directions
can be found on the Visitors page for each church.

NEW SERVICES FOR ST MARGARET'S.

Don't forget that the pattern of 10.00 services at St Margaret's has now changed. Mattins will be on the first Sunday of each month, and the Parish Eucharist will be on the second. The third Sunday will continue to be a Family Service, and on the fourth Sunday there will be a Jubilate service. Whenever there is a fifth Sunday we hope to have a united parish service, although this may not always be practicable. (Please also refer to the calendar on the St Margaret's page).

Please see the Parish Events page for dates for the 2012 diary.

About the Parish

The Parish was created by a pastoral scheme and came into operation on
1 January 2008.

It is administered by a single PCC.

The villages of Buxted and Hadlow Down make up the ecclesiastical parish,
which also includes part of Five Ash Down within its boundary. It is a rural community, but is destined to grow as a result of planned housing development.

There are two Church of England Primary schools in the parish:

The parish maintains close links with both schools, details of which can be
found on the pages for St. Margaret's and St. Mark's.

The parish is a registered charity (Charity Reg. No. 1130925).
